Join artist Melissa Jenkins and owner of Stonewell farm Lee Anne Downey as they co-teach a workshop introducing you to the world of lavender, foraging, and ink making to create your own work of art. Melissa is a local abstract artist and former high school teacher. She has taught several workshops at West Elm Toronto, Rug and Weave in Guelph and in various locations in and around Erin. She is passionate about teaching others to transpose their experiences in nature into abstract interpretations of art. Lee Anne is the owner and mastermind behind Stonewell Farm, where she and her husband renovated an 1872 stone farmhouse and began growing lavender two years ago. Stonewell farm currently offers a beautiful location for professional photographers and small batch, hand-made products from lavender grown on the farm. Lee Anne is passionate about healthy living, natural products, responsible land stewardship, and nature in general.

In this workshop Lee Anne will impart her knowledge about the process of growing, harvesting and producing lavender products. You will also have the opportunity to wander the stunning fields and forests of Stonewell Farm and learn from Lee Anne’s vast knowledge of responsible land stewardship. As we explore, we will forage for wild plants such as berries, sumac and wild grapes. Next, we will gather in the gourmet kitchen overlooking the fields where Melissa will guide you in the process of creating ink from both these foraged plants and dried lavender from the summer’s crop.

As the ink is cooling, we will convene on the terrace (weather permitting) and Melissa will guide you in drawing continuous line botanical art. Finally, you will paint your hand-crafted ink onto your drawing.

The workshop will include snacks and drinks served to you on the terrace overlooking the fieldsPlease notify us if you have any food allergies or preferences. All ink making supplies and art supplies are included. You will take home a botanically dyed bag and cloth napkin, your artwork, two bottles of ink, ink recipes, your paint brush and pen and a bundle of lavender. Please bring an apron or painting shirt, hiking shoes, long pants and sleeves and weather-appropriate clothing. There is no need to bring your own bug spray, as a lavender essential oil blend will be provided. Please note that there are bee hives on the property and that the sumac tree is a potential allergen as it is from the cashew family.
