'Make at home' Lavender Playdough

childs hand pressing into a pale purple playdough

This easy to make playdough includes a few drops of lavender oil which will soothe your busy child while they create. Keep it in a zip top bag and reuse over and over.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 cup salt

  • 4 teaspoons cream of tartar

  • 2 cups lukewarm water

  • 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (coconut oil works too)

  • 5-10 drops of pure lavender essential oil (you can order ours here )

  • Food coloring, optional but why not make it purple?! A little goes a long way. (red and blue mixed together will do the trick)

  • zip top bags

Stir together the cream of tartar, flour, and salt in a pot. Add the water and oil. If you’re only making one color, add in the the color now as well. Stirring constantly, cook over medium heat, . Continue stirring until the dough has thickened and forms into a ball. Remove from heat and place inside a large zip top bag or onto waxed paper. Allow to cool slightly and then knead until smooth.  If you want to have more then one colour, divide the dough into separate batches and add colour to each. (Wearing gloves will keep your hands their normal colour or you can knead the dough inside the plastic bag).

If it is stored inside a sealed bag it will keep up to 3 months.
